Fiscal Year 2007 Appropriations

updated January 30, 2007

Appropriations Chairman Dave Obey (D-WI) has announced a joint resolution that will provide funding for government departments and programs for the remainder of Fiscal Year 2007.

Most programs are funded at FY2006 levels with increases to cover the cost of pay increases, maintain staffing levels, avoid furloughs and meet increased costs or workloads.  The Appropriations Committee cut more than 60 programs below FY2006 levels and rescinded unobligated balances to provide for savings to address critical needs.

As anticipated, all earmarks in the bill and report were eliminated.

The House of Representatives and the Senate Appropriations Committees have completed their work on the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies spending bills (LHHS).  Both await floor action, and then the differences will need to be worked out in conference.  Prognosticators believe that floor action will likely not occur until after the 2006 mid-term elections in November.

Below, find links to summaries of the House and Senate mark-ups and highlights of some programs important to Assembly members.  Please note that the Senate link also contains a comparison to the House bill.
