Hearing Highlights Need for Coordination of Federal Youth Development Programs Witnesses from national, state, and local organizations told the House Subcommittee on Select Education on July 12 that more coordination is needed among the numerous federal agencies that provide funding for youth programs to better serve the needs of youth. They urged passage of the Federal Youth Coordination Act, which would establish a Federal Youth Development Council to improve communication among federal agencies serving youth, assess youths' needs, set goals for helping them, and expand effective programs. The Act would also provide grants to states to improve coordination of youth programs. After the hearing, three members of the Subcommittee joined Chairman Patrick Tiberi (R-OH) as cosponsors of the bill. Visit www.youthcoordinationact.org for links to the hearing webcast and the witness testimony.
