Daring to Lead 2006 - A National Study of Nonprofit Executive Leadership
Daring to Lead 2006, a national study conducted by CompassPoint Nonprofit Services and the Eugene and Agnes E. Meyer Foundation, surveyed executive directors of nonprofits about their career paths, likely tenure, management teams, and challenges and frustrations. The study found that a third of executives leave their jobs involuntarily (either fired or forced out); executive directors plan to leave their jobs within the next five years but will stay active in the nonprofit sector; and a key driver of executive burnout is frustration with funders. Child Well-Being Report Shows Mixed Results
The
2006 Child and Youth Well-Being Index, a new 30 year study on child
well-being by the Foundation for Child Development, paints a mixed
picture for America's youth. Education achievement for younger children is offset by flat or declining numbers for older youth. However,
other behavioral indicators tracked by the study demonstrate improvement,
such as declines in teenage birth rates, drinking and drug use, and
criminal activity. The study also revealed that children were more
likely to attend preschool, get college degrees, and be politically
active than their parents' generation. Read the full report here.

Did You Know?
What Does D&O Insurance Cover?
D&O insurance is the generic name given to insurance designed originally to cover Directors and Officers of publicly traded companies. Over the years coverage has evolved to protect nonprofits as well as privately held companies. Coverage provided to nonprofits is usually broader and more inclusive than coverage provided to both public and private for profit companies. The Lighthouse NonProfit D&O policy provides coverage for the wrongful acts of Directors, Officers, employees and the organization. In addition it provides employment practices liability insurance (EPLI). EPLI covers the directors, officers and the organization for damages resulting from employment perils such as wrongful termination, discrimination, sexual harassment and other perils.
Lighthouse Underwriters, LLC

The National Human Services Assembly and Lighthouse Underwriters, LLC have worked together to create a new Directors & Officers Liability program. The program is designed to provide low cost, high quality D&O Insurance exclusively for the National Assembly membership.
