Assembly Editorials---We Hope
- The current issue of Together, the magazine of Generations United, includes an editorial by NHSA exec, Irv Katz, on Generational Dynamics in the Workplace. He argues that the challenges relative to recruiting younger workers, engaging and replacing boomers, and leadership development must be tackled in tandem not in isolation. To access the editorial click here
- Katz also writes in the June 1st issue of The Nonprofit Times on the subject of “Reinventing, Re-imagining Voluntarism and the Voluntary Sector.” His premise is that the sector is not well understood, does not project itself clearly and that it is important that the public understand its unique role and contribution. He asserts so, in part, because nonprofits will increasingly compete with other sectors for talent. To access the editorial click here.

NYDIC Identified as Universal Resource in Youth Development
For more information on youth development programming, funding, jobs, research, and more check out the National Youth Development Information Center website (nydic). Respondents to the recent website survey identified NYDIC as a universal resource for most, if not all of the information that they seek out. NYDIC also appears to be serving as a vital tool for many smaller organizations, programs, and individual frontline youth workers with limited budgets as its information is free. Traffic has increased about 60% since the beginning of the year and it is currently receiving over 16,000 hits every week. Check it out today! Visit www.nydic.org.

Profile of Award-Winning Program for Low-Income Immigrant Families
Leader to Leader Institute profiled the Boys and Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley's Twilight School, where every member of an immigrant family can learn English and get the tools and resources needed to succeed in their community. The program breaks down each of the barriers to service that parents identified: it is free of charge, transportation is provided by the Club, children and adults learn at the same facility in separate classrooms, and the program is scheduled in the evening to accommodate working parents. Upcoming F.I.L.M. Programs – Saving Shiloh and Everyone’s Hero
F.I.L.M. is currently developing programs around two upcoming movies, Saving Shiloh and Everyone’s Hero. Saving Shiloh comes to DVD on August 22, 2006 and is based on the last book in the Shiloh trilogy by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. Themes that will be explored in the accompanying activity guide include looking at the root causes of people’s actions, resilience, understanding different lifestyles, and health and wellness. Everyone’s Hero, a computer-animated film, originally directed by the late Christopher Reeve, opens in theaters nationwide on September 15, 2006. Although the movie is not based on a book, three related children’s books will be published around the release of the film. Themes from the Everyone’s Hero activity guide will include anti-bullying, forging intergenerational connections, overcoming the odds, and exploring the history of baseball in the United States. Stay tuned for these exciting summer programs! Visit the F.I.L.M. website, www.youthfilmproject.org, for updates and more information on these upcoming programs.
