Girl Scouts Briefing on What Girls Say About Healthy Living Girl Scouts of the USA is holding a briefing on January 25 for The New Normal? What Girls Say About Healthy Living, a new original research report from the Girl Scout Research Institute. The report sheds light on the childhood obesity crisis by asking girls directly how they define health and what motivates them to lead a healthier lifestyle. Findings suggest that today’s girls are defining “health” on their own terms, placing the same value on emotional well-being and self-esteem as they do on diet and exercise. The briefing is from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at the National Press Club in Washington, DC. To RSVP, contact tompkins@girlscouts.org. Major Leadership Shortage in Nonprofit World Expected in Next Two Decades Nearly three-fourths of all nonprofit executives will reach retirement age over the next two decades, and charities will be hard pressed to replace them, according to a survey of 2,200 executive directors commissioned by the Annie E. Casey Foundation. It found that 73 percent of the people who now lead charities are members of the baby-boom generation — those born from 1946 to 1964. Twenty-three percent of the nonprofit leaders said they would leave their jobs before 2007, and another 42 percent said they expected to leave their positions by 2009. Major Child Health Issues in the Budget Conference Agreement National Urban League Calls New Orleans Rebuilding Plan "Exclusionary and Disrespectful" National Urban League President Marc Morial expressed concern that the new plan unveiled by the New Orleans Rebuilding Commission may violate the rights of Katrina victims to maintain their property and return. The proposed plan would give many of the city's racially diverse neighborhoods limited time to prove they should not be bulldozed, while preventing city permits to be issued to homeowners attempting to rebuild in those areas.
