State earned income tax credits (EITCs) build upon the long-term positive effects from the federal EITC, reports Pew Stateline. Twenty-five states plus Washington, D.C. have EITCs; last year, Colorado and Ohio created EITCs while Oregon and Iowa improved theirs. Benefits include poverty-reduction, improved school performance, and better earnings as adults, says the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
