Getting to the Heart of the Nonprofit Human Services Sector

At the National Human Services Assembly’s 90th anniversary annual meeting and reception in June, members took care of business —electing new Board leadership, reviewing financials, and setting the stage for another year of transparent, responsive operations.

The elected officers are:  Chair Joe Haggerty, United Way Worldwide; Vice Chair Jatrice Martel Gaiter, Volunteers of America; Treasurer Susan Danish, Association of Junior Leagues International; and Secretary Cindy Lewin, AARP.

Members elected to the board are: Michael Cruz, Nonprofit Leadership Alliance; Marc DeCourcey, American Red Cross; Susan Dreyfus, Alliance for Children and Families; Adolph Falcon, National Alliance for Hispanic Health; Jim Hmurovich, Prevent Child Abuse America; Harriet Tunison Huckstadt, 501 c Agencies Trust; Mala Thakur, National Youth Employment Coalition; Tony Sarmiento, Senior Service America; Jennifer Sirangelo, National 4H Council; Rick Wartzman, Drucker Institute; and Angela Williams, YMCA of the USA.

On the annual meeting day, Donna Butts, executive director of Generations United and an Assembly board member, published an article in The Huffington Post, noting, “At the heart of the nonprofit community is the National Human Services Assembly.2013 New Board Members … It serves as the connector for the more than 85 organizations that are a part of it, bringing them together to avoid duplication of efforts, enhance collaboration, set guidelines and promote innovation and cost efficiency.”
