Elderly low level participation in SNAP

Why do the elderly poor and new poor participate at low levels in SNAP? The Institute for Research on Poverty’s Food Stamps, Food Sufficiency, and Diet-Related Disease among the Elderly discussion paper suggests that fixed-income elderly, who often have high medical needs, can gain better levels of health care and diet-related outcomes through SNAP participation, though the impact on food security is limited. 03/26/2013
