Actions by government do matter - case closed

“Actions by government do matter - case closed,” says the Coalition on Human Needs in reviewing Census reports that poverty stayed about the same - 15 percent, or more than 46 million poor people in 2011.  (In 2010, 15.1 percent were poor.)  Children remained disproportionately poor:  just under 22 percent. SNAP and EITC are critical, based on Census calculations of results if those income sources were counted in the official statistics: 3.9 million people helped out of poverty by SNAP (1.7 million children); 5.7 million above poverty from the EITC (3.1 million children). 10/03/2012
