Majority of LGBT students are faced with many obstacles

For the first time in seven biennial surveys (since 1999), GLSEN’s 2011 National School Climate Survey clearly shows both decreases in negative indicators of school climate and continued increases in most LGBT-related school resources and supports.  GLSEN (the Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network) found that, despite signs of progress, the majority of LGBT students are faced with many obstacles: 8 out of 10 LGBT students experienced harassment at school in the past year because of their sexual orientation, three-fifths felt unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation, and nearly a third skipped a day of school in the past month because of safety concerns. 10/03/2012
