SNAP Rates Skyrocketed Along with Unemployment

One in seven or 45 million Americans receive benefits from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, which kept 3.8 million people out of poverty in 2009. Since the beginning of the recession, there has been a 69 percent nation-wide increase in SNAP participation, which is due in part to high unemployment rates.
