Families Continue To Feel the Pressure of Debt and Hard Times

American families – in particular vulnerable families – are still feeling the effect of the recession due to continuing lack of job opportunities (higher rates include 15.5% for African Americans and 24.5% for youth), decreasing income (4.3% average drop since 2007), high levels of debt (total household debt - 116.1%), and mortgage troubles (1 in 8 mortgages remain in default).
