The Volunteer Development Peer Council meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 from 9:30 am - 3:00 pm.

Verified Volunteers (our event sponsor) will be presenting on the current state of volunteering for nonprofits in our country.Kim Chochon, Vice President of Partnerships for Verified Volunteers, will be presenting and Katie Zwetzig, Executive Director for Verified Volunteers, will also be in attendance to help guide and facilitate discussion.

Also joining us is Angela Parker, Co-founder and President of Realized Worth, a leading CSR consultancy specializing in transformative volunteerism, employee volunteer training, and employee engagement, who will present on "Neuroscience and Transformative Volunteering: How Civic Engagement Changes our Brains." A description of the presentation is below.

When human beings have new experiences, new synaptic pathways forge in our brains. We become alert to new ideas and we can be guided to new understandings and different behavior. By integrating a few basic concepts into volunteering and giving programs, we can guide participants to challenge assumptions, become alert to new ideas, orient to what those ideas mean for them, and take action toward new behaviors rooted in inclusivity, compassion, and empathy – resulting in better employees, better organizations, and better communities.

Lastly, our partners at Catchafire, a community of individuals striving to push the social good sector forward by focusing on efficient and effective ways to give back and matching professionals with nonprofits based on their skills, cause interest and time availability, will be in attendance to present on skills-based volunteering.

Register now to join! Breakfast and lunch will be provided, as well as free Wi-Fi. We look forward to a terrific day of learning and networking together!

Sincerely,
